This work was motivated by my friend Al
Robinson, a talented singer of Calypsos who
rambles the streets of San Jose, Costa Rica,
like an indigent draped in rags. Disconnected
from reality, he mixes his words with brief
lapses of lucidity, as if the “fragments of his
memory” were united, once in while, to give
his friendship to us. When I was invited to
paint for this mural, I thought about Robinson
and the suffering of his family.
